Steps For Communicating With A Hybrid Team With Remote And Office Employees

Supervisors who have a hybrid team must ensure that they are working as a cohesive unit. This isn’t always easy because the remote workers usually don’t have regular contact with the workers who go into the office. Trying to communicate with the entire team can be challenging, but supervisors can consider a few options to make improvements in that area.

One of the most important things that you need to do is make it clear that you’re available to assist all the workers on your team during their shifts. If you’re ever not able to do this, have someone else who can step in to answer questions and provide guidance for them.

Keep Everyone Informed

When your entire team is in the office, the informal information hotline is up and running. Employees can pass things from one to another on each shift. This usually won’t happen when you have a hybrid team. Because of this, you should take the time to send out notices about updates, changes, and anything that the team members should know. Consider using a daily email or something similar to this so the information is easy for your team to find. Sending out multiple emails might be tempting, but this might mean information is lost or overlooked.

Have Regular Video Meetings

Getting the team together in person likely isn’t possible. You can help boost morale and remind everyone that they’re valued members of the team by having regular video meetings. This is a chance for everyone to discuss challenges and successes. It can also be a good opportunity for brainstorming about ways to improve.

Plan for Remote Worker Re-Entry

Some remote workers will be coming back into the office. Come up with a plan for helping to make this happen. Some individuals will have anxiety about making the transition back to being at the brick-and-mortar location. Make it clear that being concerned about returning to the office isn’t unusual and that they won’t face any backlash because of it.
